New York's Catholic Archdiocese Hosting June 2 Blood Drive

Long Tradition of Support for New York Blood Center (NYBC)

NEW YORK, May 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New York Catholic
Center is hosting a blood drive on Monday, June 2 at 1011 First Avenue, New
York, NY 10022 in the Cathedral High School Gymnasium. Hours are from
9:30am-3:00pm

The Archdiocese of New York has long supported the efforts of New York
Blood Center; His Eminence Edward Cardinal Egan serves as New York Blood
Center (NYBC)'s Volunteer Religious Chair.

During the Archdiocese's Bicentennial year, from April 1, 2007 to April
30, 2008, more than 11,500 blood donations were made at blood drives
sponsor at Archdiocese parishes -- an eight percent increase in Archdiocese
of New York donations.

Every day in the United States, approximately 39,000 units of blood are
required in hospitals and emergency treatment facilities to treat patients
with cancer and other diseases, to support organ transplant recipients, and
to help save the lives of accident and trauma victims. In New York, NYBC
supplies approximately 2,000 units of blood and blood products daily to
more than 200 area hospitals.

Nationwide, 60 percent of our population is eligible to donate blood,
yet only five percent actually give. Here in New York, that number is even
lower - two percent of the eligible population are blood donors. Every
three seconds, someone in this country needs blood.

Questions about donating blood can be directed to the New York Blood
Center at (800) 688-0900 or the NYBC website: HYPERLINK
