PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- RRY Publications today announced
that several stem cell experts, including Arnold Caplan, Ph.D., a professor
of biology and general medicine services (oncology) at Case Western Reserve
University, Wise Young, Ph.D., M.D., a founding director of the W.M. Keck
Center for Collaborative Neuroscience and a professor at Rutgers, The State
University of New Jersey, Thomas R. Lyon, M.D., the chief of orthopaedic
surgery at Lutheran Medical Center and New York Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson,
will be keynote speakers at the 3rd Annual Stem Cell Summit on Feb. 26 at
the Hilton New York in New York City. The one-day conference will be the
largest gathering of stem cell experts where there will be more than 40
company presentations from leading executives in the area of stem cells.
Industry analyst Robin Young will also provide a 10-year market forecast
for the stem cell industry.
Dr. Caplan and Robin Young, president of RRY Publications and the
organizer of the annual Stem Cell Summit, will provide welcoming remarks.
Dr. Caplan has studied tissue engineering of mesenchymal tissue, skeletal
tissue biology, extracellular matrix and the aging of the skin. Young's
update on the 10-year market forecast for the industry will include his
estimate for 2008 that sales of stem cell products are expected to reach
$87 million.
Drs. Young and Lyon will be luncheon keynote speakers. Dr. Young will
discuss how stem cells are helping patients with life-threatening diseases
today through the use of cord blood. Young is one of the world's
outstanding neuroscientists and a leader in spinal cord injury research who
has received various awards and acknowledgments, including being the first
researcher elected to the Spinal Cord Injury Hall of Fame. He is also the
doctor who first treated Christopher Reeve following a 1995
horseback-riding accident. Dr. Lyon trained at the prestigious Shock Trauma
Center in Baltimore and has since developed a research center focusing on
the fields of osteobiologics and orthopedic trauma.
New York Lt. Gov. David Paterson has been a stem cell proponent and
will provide closing remarks with Mr. Young. Paterson led the charge for
several crucial issues for New York's future, proposing legislation for a
$1 billion voter-approved stem cell research initiative.
